Importance of Évian-les-Bains in Tour de France history
Évian-les-Bains or simply Évian, is a commune in Eastern France, by the Swiss border. It is located in the northern part of the Haute-Savoie department in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region.
During the early years, Tour de France used to start from Paris (more precisely, from its suburbs), the first time it happened otherwise was in 1926, when it started from Évian-les-Bains.
The staggering 377 km long stage finished in Mulhose. The race came back to Evian on Stahe 15, that was a real Alpine stage of Tour de France with Télégraphe, Galibier (usually the two together), and Aravis.
The first stage was won by Jules Buysse, the 15th by Lucien Buysse, his brother, who would became the winner of the overall competition a few days later.
